Tonight I seared my first steak (yes, steak) in ooh I don't know, my entire life. When I was fifteen years-old I gave up read meat, due to a sporadic yet strong interest in vegetarianism. As my Mum barbecued steaks and roasted lamb with fresh rosemary, I firmly pushed back my plate and stuck out my tongue. No way hoesay. My parents didn't really understand why, let alone where my decision came from, but they were relieved I was still eating a variety of fish, chicken, and eggs. Several years later I gave up chicken, followed by fish and eggs, as I wholeheartedly explored a vegan diet. I put my all into a vegan lifestyle, but it didn't nourish my body the way I wanted it to.
After a difficult year, struggling to achieve my optimum health goals, I really listened to my body and knew what I had to do. I eliminated legumes, grains, and dairy, welcomed animal protein and transformed my life. My digestion is optimum, I sleep like a baby, and my sweet tooth cravings are at an all time low. I'm no longer snacking between meals or waking up as if I haven't slept. I am blown away by the instant and positive changes.
Tonight I made Elana's paleo friendly goji power bars, with a twist, which I'll share with you soon ;)
But first, I'd like to make a special toast to embracing change and living an organic, holistic, and flexible lifestyle.
Spicy N' Full Beetroot "Wine"
Yields approximately 3-4 glasses of 'wine'Ingredients:
- 4 small beets, including leaves
- 2 carrots
- 1/2 apple (I used an organic pink lady apple)
- 3 stocks celery
- 2 leaves kale
- 1 linch ginger
Beetroot is packed with Betacyanin, which is the beautiful dark pigment that gives beetroot its colour and has serious antioxidant properties. Beet greens are an excellent source of calcium, iron, Vitamins A and C, and iron. Yup, I'll cheers to that!
Look Mum, my first steak! And I really could have used your expertise... aka I googled "how to cook and season steak" several times over. Lucky for me, it turned out delicious.
Sipping on my 'wine' I feel proud and strong to have honoured my self and my body.
Cheers to optimum health,
xo
